The Choice is Yours
Parents, choosing an afterschool program for your child that will meet the demands of your work schedule, their school academics, and social needs are very important decisions for you and your child. Yes, allowing your child, to whatever extent possible, to have a say in their afterschool activities is an important part of their development.
As a parent you need to know that your child is spending their after school time in a safe, well supervised, and professionally staffed center. Over the last few years, with changes instituted by the Office of Childcare Licensing and the initiative of the centers the quality in programming and staffing has reached new hieghts. There are a large number of afterschool providers offering a diverse assortment of outcome based developmentally appropriate programs and services for young people age 5-18.
DEASA understands that you need to find the appropriate match of program and provider that will meet the needs of your child. Delaware has a wealth of afterschool options, center based, school based, community based, family centers but we know that sorting it all out can be mind boggling. Please know there is a statewide Resource and Referral System designed with you in mind. The Family and Workplace Connection maintains a database of afterschool providers in Delaware that are near your child’s school and home. Please visit them at the link provided to get the information you need to make an informed decision.
Most not-for-profit afterschool programs have been created based on an unmet need within a particular community. Can’t find what you are looking for in an afterschool program? Are their other parents that are seeking the same services, but can not find that resource?
The Alliance is here to assist in addressing the needs of communities that find “Gaps in Service”. Please visit our resource page for information on starting an afterschool program as well as links to other resources.
